"How fast can I charge a Li-ion/Polymer pack?

Each Lithium Polymer battery pack has a different maximum charge rate. It is very important to never ever charge at a rating above the specified rate! Most batteries have a label that specifies this vital information. However, if the maximum charge rate is not specified, keep in mind that most Lipos are made to be charged at a rate of 1C. Which means a 1000 mAh pack can be charged at 1A and a 500mAh pack can be charged at 0.5A. Once again, never ever exceed the maximum charge rate lest the battery explodes!"

All-Battery

Our US supplier sends out weekly emails which have useful tips - the following is one of the tips from this weeks email. Visit their website, their service is just as helpful as their email contacts, to visit just click the link to 'all-battery' in our right-hand margin!

"How do I check voltages of each of my LiPO cells through the balance taps?

This is a simple process. If you have 4 wires it is as follows: Pin 1-2 = cell 1, Pin 2-3 = cell 2, Pin 3-4 = cell 3, if you have less or more wires the same procedure can be followed to figure the other cells voltages. It should be noted that pin 1 to the last pin on the connector would yield total pack voltage and should match the voltage from the main lead. We sell the mating connector on our web site and you can create a charge adapter to charge individual cells if need be. You should be very careful when doing this. it is easy to short out a cell/cells. "

Balance plug, balancer, and lipo are our 'labels' for this post!

"What is the white plug found on my lipo pack?

This is the balance plug. It can be used with a balancer to insure safe charging of your lipo. It also gives you access to each cell in the pack so you can manually check voltage. Lipo packs need to be balanced to charge and discharge correctly. Failure to check this could lead to battery failure or worse. ie: fire."
