Useful tip from our battery supplier...

Our battery supplier often gets asked - "How do I know how long to charge my batteries?"

The following is their useful and comprehensive reply to the above query:-

"Most of our battery chargers are automatic. Follow the charging instructions that came with your charger. For most battery chargers with LED lights the RED light on indicates charging in progress and the GREEN light on indicates charging completed. You can also calculate the approximate charge time using this method. Divide the desired charge mAh by the charge rate of your battery charger mA. For example to charge 1600 mAh rated batteries that are fully discharged it would take about 2 hours using a charger with a charge rate of 850 mA. (1600/850 = 1.88 hrs.)"

So there you have the definitive answer in a nutshell... I know previous posts covered this query, but none so succinctly!

Labor day specials + hints and tips

Check out the all-battery link in our right-hand margin for your battery and charging needs... do it now - there are Labor Day specials to be had!

Now for the tips from this special supplier... People often ask if it is normal for batteries to get warm when charging - their helpful reply is included below:-

They say that yes, it is normal for NiCD or NiMH rechargeable batteries. These batteries do increase in temperature substantially due to internal resistance. The batteries may feel warm or hot when the charge is completed. According to specification, most NiMH batteries may heat up to 131 deg F or 55 deg C during a rapid charge.

They also recommend that you allow your batteries a few minutes to cool down before using them.

Another extremely helpful tip is that you... leave the dust cover lid open when you are charging your batteries to help dissipate the heat.

How about a refreshing change of subject?

Warning... it could be bad for your blood pressure!

If you are interested and/or concerned about animal issues, such as the one which I have quoted below [from an email I had via the Defenders Organisation], then please click on the link to them and check out their informative website.

Check out the current issues, sign petitions, do what you can to help various animals... keep informed! You could even sign up for their newsletter.

The following quote is in regard to our dogs big brothers... their forebears!

"Now, as Alaska’s voters are less than a year away from a vote to restrict deadly aerial gunning, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is using state funds for a misinformation campaign to continue the slaughter.

It’s simply outrageous. Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has signed off on a $400,000 state-funded propaganda campaign to justify the state’s barbaric wolf slaughter from the skies.

Why? Because Governor Palin and her political cronies in the state legislature are afraid that Alaskans will vote to end the brutal, unfair and unnecessary aerial gunning program."

Spotted owls, wilderness, the environment... please 'charge' to their defense!

I know this isn't on topic, sorry!

If you are looking for information on batteries then you ARE at the right place. You just need to go back to the very beginning of this blog - look in our oldest, and next oldest archives!

I don't want to go over and over the same old same old - and bore everyone rigid! So if you have any queries which aren't covered, or if you want another subject highlighted - just let me know! And don't forget to have a look at the links which you'll find in the margin.

Now for the bird!

The following is the first paragraph from an email entitled WildAlert which I am subscribed to... "In America's great Pacific Northwest you can find ancient trees, cascading rivers, spotted owls and salmon. These old-growth forests are American icons and help define the region's wildlife and people."

Visit TheWildernessSociety... click the link, visit the website to learn about the plight of the spotted owl, and you can also sign up for WildAlert from this page. It won't cost you a cent/euro/penny to help... yet your opinion will count.

What's in the store? More than you think!

Our supplier states that "as battery specialists we stock a full range of notebook & laptop batteries, and camcorder batteries, plus UPS batteries, also digital camera batteries AND more specialised items such as barcode scanner batteries and PLC batteries.

In addition to replacement batteries for all things electronic, we stock motorcycle batteries from Yuasa and Varta.

For household use we offer Uniross rechargeable batteries as well as some very cheap Duracell batteries. Over and above replacement batteries, we also stock power accessories such as mains inverters and rechargeable torches."

Add, to this ever growing list, an item many people will find difficult to source, yet indispensible in these days of ever growing industrial estates, spreading towns and cities, and complex one-way systems... a replacement battery for your 'sat-nav system' [satellite navigation system] and you have a really complete battery supplier!

Cons:
